What starts out as a plan to reunite his sister and her best friend ends in heartbreak for Jai Sharma in Emmerdale as his and Megan Macey’s daughter Eliza suddenly takes poorly again, reigniting the prospect of a possible cerebal palsy diagnosis.

With good intentions, Jai Sharma decides to play peacemaker to his sister Priya (Fiona Wade) and her best friend (and Jai’s former mistress) Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi). The two ladies have been at war since Leyla found out Priya slept with Leyla’s boyfriend then fiancée Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan).

“The situation comes to a head because Leyla thinks she can carry on doing business with the Sharmas, while holding a grudge against Priya,” explains Chris Bisson, who plays Jai.  “The relationship isn’t going to work under those conditions.  Jai accuses Leyla of having double standards, because obviously she had a fling with him behind Megan’s back.  Pete was also part of the affair with Priya, but she’s being far less harsh towards him.”

Rather than forgive and forget, Leyla takes her hate up a notch by getting Priya interviewed by the police regarding Emma’s murder. Furious Priya in turn destroys Leyla’s order of wedding favours which only results in Leyla, and her new sidekick Tracy Medcalfe (Amy Walsh), pouring sticky syrup all over Priya. That’s when Jai steps in.

“He gets involved because he can see how desperate Priya is to make up with Leyla, and also senses that even Leyla knows she’s gone too far after the treacle incident,” adds Chris. “Priya is trying to make up with Leyla and she is resisting. Jai accuses Leyla of double standards as she had an affair with him while he was with Megan (Gaynor Faye). They need to pull it back so Jai comes up with an idea to get them together. He leaves Priya and Leyla in the house with Eliza, so they can’t start shouting and arguing!”

Jai’s plan is thwarted when the former pals start arguing again.  However, their rowing is put on the back burner when they realise something is seriously wrong with little Eliza.

“She has a fit, reigniting the issue of her possible cerebral palsy diagnosis,” explains Chris. “Megan wants to know, but Jai is pushing back against it since he’s not ready, and he’s also taken to heart the fact that the doctor said Eliza could be two before they make a diagnosis.”

Could the diagnosis be the news they have been dreading?
