If you are a longtime Emmerdale viewer, you will remember that the first bisexual in the village, long before Robert Sugden, was Charity Dingle. And this week’s Emmerdale spoilers reveal that Charity is going to explore that side of her character again – with another vet! Actress Emma Atkins explains more.

Thurs 12th Oct 2017 – 8pm: A bottle of whisky leads to a kiss for Vanessa and Charity that quickly turns passionate…

Here’s a bit of history for those who have only just tuned in. Back in the early 2000s, Charity Dingle was trying to get her feet under the table at Home Farm, where Chris Tate (Peter Amory) was in residence. She moved in with Chris much to his sister Zoe’s disgust.

Zoe (Leah Bracknell), a local vet, hated Charity but that hate soon turned to passion and the pair started an affair. However, Charity ended it when Zoe became too possessive. Angry at being dumped, Zoe recorded Charity admitting the affair and tried to blackmail her, but Charity told Chris and he forgave her, but fell out with Zoe, who then became ill.

Emmerdale’s Charity and Zoe

After Zoe, Charity has since been the maneater we’ve come to expect – and to be honest, you could never quite tell if she had genuine feelings for Zoe and cared more about the money.

Meanwhile another vet, Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) also developed feelings for another woman – her best friend Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry). Rhona reciprocated when Vanessa made a move but only because she was addicted to prescription pills. As soon as Vanessa found out she was an addict, Rhona confessed to playing her.

Since then, Vanessa had an ill-fated romance with toy boy Kirin Kotecha, resulting in a baby son, and a couple of cheeky drunken snogs with Adam Barton.

So, in what seems like a bid to reinvent Charity and to give Vanessa a boost, Emmerdale has decided to put the two ladies together…

Actress Emma Atkins tells us more…

What did you think when you heard Charity was to kiss Vanessa?
“I was quite shocked, but it was an exciting surprise. I haven’t worked closely with Michelle Hardwick before. She and Charity haven’t really had much to do with each other. It’s extremely left field, which I like. Charity likes to shock and the connection with Frank, Vanessa’s dad and Charity’s ex, (Michael Praed) will be exciting for her. There’s a lot of scope for provocation!”

How do they end up in the cellar?
“The cellar door is broken. Charity goes downstairs to change a barrel and Vanessa comes down there drunk. The door slams and they are trapped. There is loud music playing upstairs, so nobody can hear them call for help.”

What do they talk about?
“There is a lot of interesting dialogue because they are poles apart. They don’t like each other and there’s a lot of tension. They wind each other up.”

How does the kiss happen?
“Charity enjoys the moment. They are arguing and Vanessa is telling Charity that she’s mean. She asks her how she can live with herself. That eats away at Charity, but she doesn’t want to let it show. She gets up close and personal with Vanessa, to unnerve her. They are sitting on this armchair together and Charity catches Vanessa off-guard. She kisses her and she responds willingly and suddenly they are in a heated embrace!”

Will Charity want it to progress?
“Well, Charity is at a loose end. She has no man to keep her occupied. She’d like to be going around in a big fast car with lots of money, but she is running a pub. She is seizing the moment and making life less boring and she really doesn’t care whose feathers she ruffles along the way!”
