Is Emmerdale’s Kyle at Risk?
Since her Emmerdale return, Amy Wyatt has been trying to be a good mum to Kyle but when she gets her head turned by farmhand Nate, there’s disastrous consequences for the boy, leaving him in grave danger. Actress Natalie-Ann Jamison explains.
The trouble starts when Amy Wyatt agrees to a date with new Emmerdale farmhand Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), which is first interrupted by her mother Kerry (Laura Norton) and then Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) – both of which he has had one night stands with. He’s working his way through the village quicker than a cold!
After the ladies gang up on him and give him a lesson in how to treat women, Nate is keen to make amends. He approaches Amy at the playground where she is spending time with son Kyle. But Amy is so distracted by talking to Nate, she fails to notice Kyle wandering off.
When a frantic Amy discovers Kyle has gone missing, Nate helps her to search for him. Unbeknown to them and mechanic Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) Kyle has snook into the garage when Dan is called away and has his back turned. He jumps in the driver’s seat of one of the cars and starts to play, switching on the car’s engine.
When Nate realises Kyle is trapped in the locked garage, which is now full of smoke, he panics as he struggles to open the garage doors and searches for something to break open the garage door to save Kyle from the fumes. Meanwhile, a fearful Amy tells Moira (Natalie J Robb) how Kyle’s gone missing and Moira is quick to jump into action…
Nate’s attempts at playing the hero make Amy see him in a new light explains actress Natalie Ann Jamieson.
“When Kyle is found in the garage, it’s because of Nate,” says Natalie Ann. “So I think for Amy, even though Nate might have messed up a little bit with the Tracy thing, it was before they were together. It’s something they could get over.
“For Nate to jump into action when Kyle goes missing, I think that’s going to be a massive thing for Amy. Things could work for them after that moment for sure.
“They both have a similar spirit. Amy has been off travelling when she was in Belfast and she could potentially settle anywhere. Nate is a similar character, living in his caravan. I think that’s appealing to Amy… and he’s quite hunky as well, which doesn’t hurt!”
Whilst Nate’s heroics may mend fences with Amy, her actions may do more harm than could when it comes to Kyle’s father Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). How will Amy handle the guilt of what she caused?
“It’ll tear her apart because she’s messed up with Kyle before in the past,” adds Natalie Ann. “She’s had years and years apart from him before this. Amy also remembers her own relationship with Kerry and how damaging that was – having that person there who could never quite look after you.
“Amy is now at a point where she feels like she can be someone who’s stable in Kyle’s life. So to mess up in a big way like this will be really tough for her.
“If Cain was to find out that Amy had done this, there would be no rational way of looking at it from his point of view. Moira perhaps, as a mother, might understand the situation. It was an accident, Kyle turned around and he was gone.
“But I don’t think Cain would feel the same way. Cain would put the blame on Amy and that would ruin her chances of seeing Kyle. Kyle is the main reason she came back to the village so that would be awful.”
