Victoria Barton is on a mission to find husband Adam after discovering he fled Emmerdale branded a murderer in order to protect his mum Moira Dingle but ends up putting herself in danger. Actress Isabel Hodgins explains all…
Ever since her mother-in-law Moira (Natalie J Robb) found her in a clinch with her brother-in-law Matty (Ash Palmisciano) and revealed who really killed Emma, Victoria Barton has been on a mission to track down husband Adam – despite not mentioning his name in months!
Knowing Aaron Dingle – excuse me Aaron Sugden-Dingle – helped her husband escape, Victoria breaks into the haulage office next week and starts rifling through the drawers. Back from his honeymoon, her brother Robert is worried to see the lock to the haulage office broken and papers everywhere.
“She has no one to trust – not even her brother because of his relationship with Aaron, Matty and Moira,” explains Isabel. “She feels really lonely. The one person that she wants to speak to is her husband, who is on the run and accused of murder. So, it’s a very tricky time for her.
Undeterred, Victoria hires Glen, a private investigator, to find Adam (Adam Thomas) who warns her that tracking down Adam will be expensive but Victoria will stop at nothing and transfers the first payment to him so he can get started.
And it seems that Glen is earning his money when he reveals he’s located Adam in Portugal and asks for £5,000 to hand over the details. However, Aaron has confided in a shocked Robert and Matty that Adam is in Budapest – as he’s been in touch!
Matty is concerned and comes clean to Moira about knowing for a fact Adam isn’t in Portugal. He pulls out Victoria’s envelope of cash, saying he managed to get it out of her bag without her noticing but they all start to panic that Victoria now might be in danger.
“When Glen says, ‘pay me £5000 and I’ll tell you where your husband is, it’s a no brainer for Victoria,” adds Isabel. “But then she realises that the money is gone. The trouble is, Glen isn’t a real PI, and now she’s completely on her own in the middle of nowhere with this guy. It’s just gone from bad to worse!
“It’s panic stations for Victoria. It’s all a bit sinister. Victoria thinks ‘oh no, I’m alone with this guy who’s not very nice. He’s a lot bigger than me, so he can definitely overpower me or cause me some damage!”
As Glen quickly loses his patience, Matty, Robert and Aaron frantically track Victoria down to the meeting place but find just her phone on the ground.
Isabel states: “She’s been betrayed by her loved ones, Victoria is making some bad decisions, but she’s not really thinking about herself. Nobody thinks all that rationally when their heart is broken.”
