Emmerdale Spoilers: After a harrowing couple of years, with her husband Paddy Kirk cheating on her and then violently raped by new husband Pierce, its only right that Emmerdale’s Rhona Goskirk has some fun in her future, possibly in the shape of fit farmer Pete Barton.
Rebuilding her life, and trying to move on after realising she still loves ex-husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) made a rash bid on Pete (Anthony Quinlan) in the fundraising skills auction. Suggesting a drink instead of work, Pete then stood the vet up leaving her feeling low again.
But a chance meeting on a country lane involving sheep, a broken down Land Rover and a cheeky snog, gives Rhona the confidence to ask Pete out on a proper date that ends with more than a goodnight kiss…
“This whole thing comes from nowhere,” Zoe Henry explains to Soaplife magazine.
“Rhona bid on Pete at the village fundraiser after Chas bids on Paddy before she can. Pete says he’ll take her out for a drink, but doesn’t show up. Rhona then runs into him by accident and asks him to go out for a drink.
“They go out and have a snog and one thing leads to another. She can’t quite believe this is happening to her. There is a cute little chemistry between them.”
So does she have feelings for Pete? “He has never entered her head before,” Zoe adds. “He is ten years younger and a bit of a car crash when it comes to romance. She sees it as a bit of fun. She is not reading anything into it and expects him to say ‘Let’s not get carried away.’ She is a mother and she is just getting over a terrible rape ordeal. She is just having a little bit of fun and finding her feet.
“But I’d say ‘You go for it, girl!’ I think that a little bit of what you fancy does you good. Her priority will always be her son and then her job. She is a typical middle-aged, professional mother who always puts herself last.”
While this is all going on, Rhona’s best mate Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) warns a jealous Paddy to keep his nose out and let Rhona move on, blurting out that she is still in love with him.
The next morning, a confused Paddy bumps into Rhona in yesterday’s clothes and can’t control his jealousy.
“Rhona doesn’t know why he’s jealous,” Zoe adds. “And it’s probably bets that she doesn’t, because it might give her false hope!”
