Are Emmerdale’s Ellis Chapman Fears Justified?
Stabbing victim Ellis Chapman fears gangster Max is back in Emmerdale this week. Are his fears justified or is he suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Actor Asan N’Jie explains.
Since he was stabbed on the Emmerdale villagers ‘big night out‘, Ellis Chapman (Asan N’Jie) has healed pretty quickly (thanks to the magical medics at Hotten General) and he’s been trying to carry on with his day-to-day life.
However, this week Ellis has a panic attack when he spots someone who he thinks is Max – his brother’s ex-cell mate and the person he is convinced stabbed him. Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) finds him and tries to comfort him, having been through similar attacks himself, but Ellis is terrified, and runs off.
“Since being stabbed, Ellis has developed post-traumatic stress disorder, and keeps getting flashbacks to the night it all happened,” explains actor Asan N’Jie, who plays Ellis. “It’s making his heart race, he gets really hot, and he can’t stand to be in enclosed spaces. Even someone coming up behind him to say hello makes Ellis jump out of his skin.
“So the fact that Max could still be out there, and Ellis doesn’t know what his next move will be, just makes the whole situation worse…”
The next day, Aaron tells a thrown Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) what happened. Worried, Billy makes contact with Max to tell him to stay away from his family but it only stirs the pot, as the following day, a threatening message from Max causes Ellis to have another panic attack.
“This is having a drastic effect on Ellis’ life,” adds Asan. “He’s not good with his emotions, and he doesn’t like to say what’s on his mind. He opens up a little bit to Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Jessie (Sandra Marvin), but he finds that hard. And all the while he’s still making sure that his bedroom door is locked at night – he’s constantly frightened.
“On the night the stabbing took place, Ellis was upset with Billy for leaving him but deep down, Ellis has always trusted Billy and loves his brother. In his head, Ellis might be able to rebuild bridges and restore the friendship they had before this all happened. However, what’s gone on could end up bringing them closer together, or pushing them further apart, depending on what happens next…”
Meanwhile, Billy hammers on the door of a house looking for Max, before a lad opens the door and says Max has already gone to find him, leaving Billy alarmed. Back at home, still in the throes of his panic attack a terrified Ellis hears a rattling at the back door. Panicked he picks up a rolling pin…
