Emmerdale’s Aaron is not leaving the Soap!
Actor Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Sugden, has pledged to stay at Emmerdale despite his on-screen partner Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert Sugden, known by fans as Robron, leaving the ITV soap.
Emmerdale’s Danny Miller has revealed that he is relishing the chance to be challenged in his role as Aaron Dingle in an interview with the Daily Star Sunday.
At a recent press event, producer Laura Shaw said: “Ryan Hawley is leaving the show – it’s been a fantastic five years with him and we will miss him dearly. There is some time left with him on screen yet but in time, it does mean that our beloved Robron are going to be parted. You’ve seen in the past what happens with Aaron when he unravels so when he is parted from his beloved Robert, it’s going to be explosive.”
Danny first joined the ITV soap as Aaron Dingle back in 2008 but left in 2014 after his character’s coming out storyline.
Danny said: “It’s been 11 years now and there really is nothing like being called upstairs about a big storyline. I’m still buzzing about what’s coming up. I’m happy to stay as long as they’ll have me.
“I’d just turned 17 when I first started at Emmerdale. I never expected it, I never trained for it, I just fell into it. I initially signed up for six months and I never expected it to last.
“When I look back at those early years I’m happy to admit that a lot of the time I felt like a fraud. But I worked hard and I learned from some of the best in the business.
“And even now, I never expect a new contract, because I think you can become a bit too comfortable which can make you lazy. I never take any of it for granted.”
“I really have been so lucky over the years. Even now when I look back at all the coming out stuff, what we did with that storyline. It was massive. We changed opinion and got people talking.
“I remember being invited to the Gay Times Awards, to present one of the awards, and Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas came up to thank me. I still get people thanking me, but it’s the show that should take the credit for what they did with the storyline because it broke down stigma.”
“When I went off and did Scott and Bailey I got the chance to work with Suranne, Lesley and Amelia Bullmore, who taught me so much about the business.”
Danny also talked about his own battles with mental health problems in the exclusive interview that took place shortly after the British Soap Awards.
He explained: “I suffer from anxiety and depression. And I take tablets for depression. I’m still on them now because I found myself unable to deal with stuff. I’ve got a platform to talk about it, and it’s really important.”
Don’t miss Emmerdale every week night at 7pm with additional episodes on Thursday at 8pm.
