Former Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett has revealed she has quit acting in favour of broadcasting with a new role on Minster FM as the co-presenter of its breakfast show.
Roxanne Pallett, who played village vixen turned battered wife Jo Sugden from 2005 to 2009, joins long-running host Ben Fry on the weekday show airing across York.
Speaking of her decision to quit acting, Roxanne told the Daily Star on Sunday: “I have been told to lose weight, get Botox, and change my accent to get a casting. I wasn’t prepared to do that. I don’t feel appreciated as an actress so I am quitting the industry.”
Roxanne arrived in Emmerdale at Jo Stiles, the new receptionist at the vets’ surgery and was soon noticed by the local men, especially Max King and Danny Daggert. But it was Andy Sugden who she had an affair with while he was still married to his childhood sweetheart Katie.
The pair married while Andy was in prison for manslaughter after confessing to killing his mum. On his release, he struggled to adjust and started lashing out at Jo. She divorced Andy in 2009 after leaving the village and has not been seen since.
In an additional comment to Digital Spy on her acting career, Roxanne added in a statement: “I’ve felt like an uninvited guest at a party for too long. So rather than continue to feel invisible, I decided to move into an area I feel valued and fulfilled and that’s radio and broadcasting.
“My new year’s wish for 2018 was to transcend from acting into broadcasting, and it’s now come true. I’m so honoured to be waking North Yorkshire up and looking forward to sharing my mornings with everyone on the air.”
As well as Emmerdale, Roxanne has appeared in episodes of Waterloo Road, Casualty, and Crime Stories. She’s also appeared on Soapstar Superstar, the fourth series of Dancing On Ice, and Total Wipeout.
