Headmistress Jessie Dingle leaves Emmerdale!
Emmerdale actress Sandra Marvin has quit her role as headmistress Jessie Dingle after two years in the Dales and already has new next job lined up!
Jessie’s character, who has been suspended as head teacher of the local high school, will leave some time later this year.
Over the past two years, Sandra’s character has been shot, held hostage and get married to chef Marlon Dingle in a surprise Christmas wedding.
Speaking exclusively to OK! Magazine, Sandra said that leaving the ITV soap was a big risk but wanted to challenge herself.
She said: “There are so many amazing people looking for work and it’s a tough industry, but if you don’t challenge yourself you’ll never know. My last day will be emotional. There’s definitely going to be a wobbly lip!”
Sandra, who first appeared in the ITV soap in 2017, has joined the cast of Thunder Girls, which she will be starring in alongside Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard and Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan from September.
However, she revealed that Emmerdale bosses have left the door open for her character to return in the future.
She added: “Thank God they’ve left the door open, I’m very grateful for that. Prior to Emmerdale I had quite a diverse career and I’ve done a lot of theatre, plays and musicals, and solo concerts too. As a session singer, I recorded the title song on the sound track for the Oscar-winning film Gravity with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
“It’s been an amazing time on Emmerdale but I’m also excited to see what the future could hold. It was a really hard one as I love soaps and I always dreamed of being in one. I’ve had the most fantastic time.”
Sandra’s arrival as Jessie was soon followed by her two sons Ellis Chapman and Billy Fletcher. There is no news at present as to how Sandra’s departure will affect her on-screen sons Asan N’Jie and Jay Kontzle.
This week, Jessie’ ex husband and Ellis’ dad Al Chapman arrives in Emmerdale as another challenge for Jessie and Marlon. Will Al pave the way for Jessie’s exit or will he remain to support the boys. And what about poor Marlon? More heartbreak and lip wobbling is on the cards…
