Zak Dingle Undergoes Heart Op!
Emmerdale stalwart Steve Halliwell, who plays the much loved Zak Dingle, has revealed that a secret heart operation has resulted in him taking a five month absence from the Dales.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online, Emmerdale actor Steve Halliwell, who has played Zak Dingle for 25 years this October, explained how he had emergency surgery for a heart condition last September, which explains his sudden and prolonged on-screen absence.
With a new pacemaker fitted, Steve has been convalescing and is now ready to get back to the Emmerdale village.
Steve explained: “I’m back at work in a few weeks and feeling fitter than ever after having a pacemaker fitted in September. It’s done me the world of good and I feel fantastic.
“Emmerdale has been brilliant throughout and really looked after me. I did have to spend some time in hospital and it was really funny to see the entire Dingle clan around my bed.
“Everyone has been so considerate and I know it sounds a bit of a cliche, but we really are one big happy family. I have some great storylines coming up and I can’t wait to get stuck into filming.”
Zak made a sudden disappearance from Emmerdale in September leaving fans speculating where he was, especially given his daughter Belle’s harrowing experience with serial killer Lachlan White, and his son’s Cain current turmoil as he believes he killed Joe Tate, his daughter’s fiancee.
Storylines were quickly rewritten to allow Steve to get the treatment and rest he deserved and planned storylines put on hold to await Steve’s return, hopefully bringing on-screen co-star Jane Cox who plays his estranged ex-wife Lisa Dingle with him.
Steve is the second longest servicing cast member in the award winning ITV soap after joining Emmerdale in 1994. Chris Chittell remains the longest serving as Eric Pollard.
We look forward to Steve and Zak’s return soon in Emmerdale.
