Emmerdale has a great track record in the TV Choice Awards and 2019 looks to be no different with five cast members shortlisted in the three Soap categories.

In the Best Actor category, Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert Sugden, and Jeff Hordley, best known as Cain Dingle, represent Emmerdale against last year’s winner Danny Dyer aka Mick Carter from Eastenders and Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd, better known at David Platt.

Ryan Hawley won the award in 2017 and, with unconfirmed reports that he is leaving the show after five years, it would be great for him to end on a high as a thank you from fans. However, Jeff Hordley has more than earned a shot at the award with his continued portrayal of the multifaceted village ‘bad boy’.

Isabel Hodgins gets her first TV Choice nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Victoria Barton. She faces Coronation Street’s Alison King, who plays Carla Connor, and Lorraine Stanley (Karen Taylor) and Gillian Wright (Jean Slater) from Eastenders.

Can Isabel make it an Emmerdale hat trick after Emma Atkin’s win in 2018 for her role as Charity Dingle, and Charlotte Bellamy, best known as Laurel Thomas, who won in 2017.

Emmerdale’s Asan N’Jie, who plays Ellis Chapman, and Olivia Bromley aka Dawn Taylor are both shortlisted for Best Soap Newcomer – a category Emmerdale has also won for the past two years. Ned Porteous (Joe Tate) won in 2018 while Sally Dexter (Faith Dingle) won in 2017.

As always, Emmerdale is also in the shortlist for Best Soap, an accolade it last won in 2017.  They are nominated alongside Eastenders, Coronation Street, who won in 2018, and Hollyoaks, who surprisingly only received the one nomination after a strong result at the British Soap Awards.

Voting on the shortlist will remain open until midnight on Friday 5 July. The awards ceremony takes place at The London Hilton on Park Lane on Monday 9 September.
