Emmerdale writer and TV Soap ‘Pundit’ Sharon Marshall has welcomed a baby daughter called Betsey, only a few days after going on maternity leave.

Emmerdale News: Writer Sharon Marshall welcomes baby Betsey

The birth was announced by This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield who confirmed the show’s resident soap queen Sharon Marshall has given birth to a baby girl.

Sharon has welcomed her first child, daughter Betsey Fletcher, into the world with partner Paul Fletcher, with Holly describing the bundle of joy as “absolutely perfect”.

Speaking on This Morning, Phil said: “Betsy Fletcher came into the world at 1pm.” Holly then added: ““Yes, just a week ago to the day in fact, our Soap Queen Sharon Marshall was right here before she headed off on maternity leave, and she did not hang about – Betsey Fletcher came into the world at 1pm yesterday.

“She is absolutely perfect in every way! And look at that photograph of all of them… a little family for the very first time.” Phil added: “Huge congratulations – she is beautiful!”

Thanking fans for their well wishes on Twitter, Sharon wrote: “Thank you once again This Morning viewers for the lovely messages, letters, toys and most of all – beautiful knitting. We have been so honoured and touched that you’d take the time to wish our growing family well. See you at the other side.”

Sharon announced her baby news in January live on This Morning – shocking Holly and Phil. She said: “I’m pregnant. I am probably going to say everything wrong.  I am a little bit emotional.”

Sharon then admitted keeping the revelation well under wraps, though revealed she had already confided in  the programme’s resident medical expert, Dr. Chris Steele, about her little secret.

She said: “Well I told Dr Chris very early so he’s been keeping the secret. Myself and my partner Paul Fletcher, we’re 14 weeks along, and we let Dr Chris into the secret a long time ago because he’s the king of the corridor consultation.”

Sharon joined the Emmerdale writing team in 2015 with her first episode airing in February 2016 and has since penned 24 episodes of the Yorkshire soap as well as maintaining her duties on ITV’s This Morning.
