Emmerdale hasn’t given much away about who Dean Andrews will be playing but has teased that the character will be “stirring up trouble in the village” and will “find himself head to head with Cain Dingle.” As if Cain hasn’t got enough on his plate right now.

Dean Andrews is best known as Ray Carling from the 70s drama series Life on Mars and its 80s sequel Ashes to Ashes, but he has also appeared in Last Tango in Halifax, Silent Witness, The Moorside, and Marchlands.

Talking about his new role, Dean said: “I have always loved Emmerdale and am thrilled to be joining the cast. As a Yorkshire lad, I have always watched the show and think that everything from the acting to the stories are consistently great, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Executive Producer Jane Hudson added: “We are absolutely delighted that Dean is joining the show. “He is a superb actor, and his character is certainly going to shake things up for some of our villagers. And as a Yorkshireman, he is going to fit into Emmerdale perfectly.”

So with little known about the character, fans are left to speculate on who Dean will be playing. With lady of the manor Kim Tate due to return to Emmerdale in late February/early March, it’s possible Dean’s character could be linked to her, or maybe he’s involved with investigating Joe Tate’s death – without having a body to back up the claims. Or given Emmerdale also announced today that Amy Wyatt is to return – who got pregnant by Cain and has custody of her son – maybe he’s here to help Amy get Kyle back from his father.

We shall see and keep you posted on any updates as they are revealed.
